Elegant spiced red berry fruits, somewhat reminiscent of Christmas fruit cake, are interlaid with nuances of oak aromatics. Softly structured palate where the fabulously full frontal fruit of spiced plums and cherries underpins a richly textured mouthful. The aftertaste lingers as the wine moves effortlessly from front to mid to back palate, resplendent with just enough tannic backbone to enable contemplation of a superbly crafted wine.

Tasting note: 2003 vintage exhibits a dark ruby appearance with prominent mocha coffee and chocolate hints on the nose which combine well with the French oak detail. Ripe berry fruit is evident and this vintage of the Merlot has terrific mid-palate texture and a lengthy finish.

Tasting note: Mid depth, opaque, garnet appearance. Solid black currant nose with delicate vanilla-oak behind. Open and inviting on the palate, mid weight on entry but builds well to reveal layers of flavour. Black currant backed up with judicious oak and a firm backbone of tannic hidden behing the fruit. Approachable now, but would certainly benefit from a year or two in the bottle. Drink over the new five years.
